Please help me find out assonance in Sylvia Plath’s Aerial?
This poem has perhaps perfectly used assonance as it contains several repetitions of vowel sounds between the lines, including following:
- The words “Thumb,” “snug” and “gun” all have used vowel sound “u” in the first two lines.
- This line, “Man could handle a spade” uses assonant sound “a”.
- “Cut more turf” makes use of “u” sound.
- “o” assonant sound is used in “On Toner’s bog.”
- The line “Cold smell of potato mould” gives the best assonance in this poem with “o” sound in the following line.
