If I can stop one heart from breaking. poem by Emily Dickinson

if i can stop one heart from breaking,

    i shall not live in vain;

if i can ease one life the aching,

Or cool one pain,

Or help one lonely person

    Into happiness again

I shall not live in vain.

There are two major devices. The first is anaphora that “If I can stop” which means the use of same phrase in the first part of the verses and second is the use of refrain that is “I shall not live in vain.”
