The major contradiction in this novel is of love and hate, like Paul feels these two emotions with almost all women in his life and at times with his mother too. Oftentimes, he has both feelings simultaneously with Miriam. Also, the author contrasts mind and body while exploring idea of desire, when characters pair up with those who are quite opposite to them. Similarly, Mrs. Morel has hidden love and feelings for her husband, although she does not like him.
