Since this book is about pirates, so obviously it is about crime. Also, this is an adventure story, therefore, you cannot find enough room for realism here. It is a fantasy book of crime, involving men with awkward names and keeping parrots on their shoulders, searching for gold. Simultaneously, Stevenson portrays pirate life realistically and his characterization seems to reveal some ideas about criminals. Those pirates in novel are childish and self-indulgent and if they were disciplined, then they would have achieved everything they wished for, but their plans fail due to lack of self-control, leading them to become criminal.
