Is there any foreshadowing in Faulkner’s short story, “A Rose for Emily?”

Hi Jane- Yes, there are several examples of foreshadowing in “A Rose for Emily.”  When Emily’s father dies, the reader learns that Emily only gives up his body reluctantly and she refuses to accept his death.  This foreshadows her reaction when Homer dies, except this time, she keeps his body and doesn’t admit that he is dead at all.  Another example of foreshadowing would be the way that the narrator describes Emily’s hair; it changes color as she ages.  At the end of the story, a strand of Emily’s hair is found near Homer’s decayed body, which serves as a symbol of her mental illness, necrophilia, and desperation to keep Homer close to her.  Hope this helps!
