What are some “life lessons” that atticus teaches to his children in To Kill a Mockingbird?

Hi DreaKate,

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus teaches his children many life lessons. He is a figure of justice, integrity,  and character. One of the most important life lessons (and a theme of the novel) Atticus teaches is to hold your head up high and never let negative things people say bother you.

Hope that helps!

DreaKate – Atticus’ character is level-headed, objective, intelligent, and he serves as a role model to all.  He teaches his children to preserve the beauty in humanity and on Earth (don’t judge people, treat everyone fairly, etc.); handle undesirable situations with dignity and grace; courage (stand up for yourself, never give up); and ultimately, respect everyone despite their differences or oddities.  Enjoy!
