Meaning of Mirror Metaphor in “Adam Bede”

Please describe metaphor of mirror and what does it reflect in Adam Bede?

Well, Eliot has subtly related metaphoric technique with the theme of this novel. For instance, she presents mirror as a metaphor and exploits it for different meanings for different characters. The novel begins with metaphor of mirror that reflects reality. For Hetty, it reflects no reality, however, her fantasies that she considers as it admires her alluring beauty. Similarly, the mirror of Arthur tells his self-deluded dreams. Whereas Dinah does not like to look at mirror directly except through window because her prospects lie in outward community, not in inward fantasy driven loneliness.
