Yeah, just look at the setting of this literary work, as it reflects religious overtones and theme. In the novel, we see there is no hope, and less possibility of redemption and salvation. Individuals face forlorn state, which becomes a test for them about their religious faith. The author suggests that though in a world of father and son there might be less conventional and established religion, there could still be redemption that how humans need to take care of one another. They need to understand religious teachings in an environment where proper teachings of religion are absent, finally lead them to salvation.
