Theme of Perseverance in “The Fellowship of the Ring”


Is perseverance a virtue in The Fellowship of the Ring? Can you prove how perseverance is thematically important to good and bad sides of the quest of the Ring?


Perseverance means continue doing duty or a task despite facing difficulties. So, yes in this novel, Tolkien has admired one virtue that is perseverance. In fact, author loves his characters that keep doing their work even if they do not wish to continue. Likewise, we see this in entire Fellowship; the company continues going across terrain as they know it’s necessary to continue for the quest of the Ring. On the contrary, bad side perseveres too, which is search for Frodo. Towards the end of this novel, you would notice the perseverance of characters against odds makes this novel an exciting suspenseful read.
