Neil has alluded popular Greek mythology of “Medea” by Euripedes. Though circumstances are different however the idea of infanticide does exist. Then there we find oedipal conflict between father and son like Cabot and Eben seeking superiority. Like Oedipus and Laius fight for supremacy and Oedipus kills Laius and marries his mother, Eben and Cabon become rivals to win love of Abbie and Eban becomes successful by impregnating her (stepmother). Thus, a parallel exists between Eben and Oedipus in this regard as well.
