Purpose of using Child Narrator in “The House on Mango Street”

What is the point of using a child narrator in Sandra Cisneros’ “The House on Mango Street?”

The purpose of using a child as the narrator is to provide the perspective of Esperanza, a child. Author shows us life seen through the eyes of this child. Being a writer, she shares her personal feelings, experiences and describes things the way she has seen them. Her illustrations are empirical yet imaginative associations, like when she gives us the description of “Four Skinny Trees,” in fact, she provides us objective illustration, however, comparing trees to her own self, Esperanza gives an analogy with a typical fairy tale’s tone. In addition, her style and tone of narration is poetic, and childish yet sophisticated.
